It’s known that you are leading a data analysis team for ShopeeFood. Could you share more about your current work?

I’m Bạch Hoàng Quân, Lead Commercial Business Intelligence at ShopeeFood, and a student in the PSO MBA – cohort 2024. As the leader of a three-person team, I oversee the analysis of raw data collected from our sellers and users. The insights derived from this analysis enable us to make informed recommendations for adjusting marketing budget allocations.

What factors influenced your decision to choose the PSO MBA program?

I enrolled in the PSO MBA program due to its reputable quality, practical curriculum, and experienced faculty.

As a former ISB student, I have confidence in the school’s quality of MBA programs. The curriculum is designed with two phases that combine foundational business knowledge and practical skills, which perfectly suits my MBA learning needs. Additionally, I can expand my network with a vast network of experts working in various corporations.

Previously, I focused on developing my professional skills. When I became the leader of a small team, I started to focus on improving my leadership skills to help the team develop further in the future.

I believe individuals with technical backgrounds can significantly benefit from an MBA. It provides a strong foundation in management principles, enabling them to effectively lead and empower their teams.

What difficulties did you encounter while studying at PSO MBA?

I think balancing time is the most difficult thing when studying for an MBA. When I started the program, my job took up most of my time in a day. Therefore, I couldn’t keep up with the ‘heavy’ intensity of the program and felt a bit ‘overwhelmed’ when attending MBA classes on weekends.

However, reviewing the timetable and allocating specific time for each task in the day helped me arrange all my work properly. Now, I have developed discipline and caught up with the pace of work and study.

Which course impressed you the most during the PSO MBA program?

Previously, my work was purely focused on data analysis and processing. Therefore, I am extremely impressed with the Data-driven in Digital Marketing course taught by Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tien, Head of E-commerce, Schneider Electric Vietnam & Cambodia, in the program.

Thanks to participating in the class, I understand that every marketing campaign needs to have a clear specific goal: increase brand awareness or focus on sales. Based on that goal, we will consider the appropriate indicators to monitor. For example, for the goal of increasing brand awareness, Mr. Tien guides students to monitor the Impression/User indicator to evaluate the frequency of customer contact with advertising. For the sales goal, students need to monitor the Conversion Rate or Click-through-rate to observe customer conversion effectiveness.

After the course, comparing the effectiveness of the campaign with the market standard is very important.

Who is your favourite lecturer?

Ms. Mai Linh Lê, General Manager for Indochina at HALEON in the Leadership and HR Management course, has helped me shape my leadership style. In one lesson, she shared about the importance of using emotional intelligence (EQ) to solve problems. She said that if EQ is used effectively, all stakeholders will be more satisfied when working together and work will also be resolved more smoothly.

Previously, I always had two thoughts in solving problems: either right or wrong. After Ms. Mai Linh’s course, I started to learn more about different perspectives of my friends and analyse and listen to their opinions. From there, I can conclude more slowly to find a better way to work for myself.

What changes has he experienced after joining the PSO MBA program?

In terms of knowledge, I have learned more about how to read the data of marketing campaigns and understand which indicators are suitable for the goals set by the company. In terms of management thinking, I can adjust the appropriate method because I understand that the way to manage each employee is also different.

To develop relationships, I often connect on LinkedIn and contact friends if I need to discuss more about professional expertise or new skills. Thanks to connecting with friends and experts, teachers, I can receive more advice on career opportunities.

In the process of teamwork, I meet new people with proficient professional skills. For example, I worked with a friend who works in marketing at Sony Electronics Vietnam. He guided me on how to tell stories with numbers more visually instead of just processing raw data as before. Now, my ‘stories’ have become much more vivid and easier to visualise.

What advice do you have for those considering the PSO MBA program?

If you already have a solid professional foundation and are looking for ways to improve your management skills and knowledge, PSO MBA will be a suitable program for you. Here, a large community of lecturers and experts with extensive knowledge and experience will help you accumulate ‘resources’ to perfect your management role.
