Ms. My Mai

Head of Finance Planning & Analysis, Generali Life Insurance Vietnam

“Ms. Thanh Xuân’s motivational approach using pressure might create challenges in the short term, but it can ultimately motivate students to achieve significant results.” This is a sharing from Ms. Mai Phương Mỹ, Head of Finance Planning & Analysis at Generali Life Insurance Vietnam.

*It is known that you are currently a student in the PSO MBA class. Please introduce yourself and your current work.

I am Mai Phương Mỹ, currently working at Generali Life Insurance Vietnam as the Head of Finance Planning & Analysis. In this role, I lead a team of 5 to manage and execute financial strategic planning, cash flow management, and annual financial reporting for the company.”

*What were the key factors that convinced you to choose the PSO MBA?

I am pursuing an MBA to enhance my leadership skills and broaden my understanding of various business functions within a company such as HR, Marketing, Information Technology, etc.

I believe that choosing the PSO MBA is a wise decision as it is a high-quality Master’s program. The PSO MBA curriculum is designed by Western Sydney University, one of the top 1% of the world’s best universities. I also prioritise the PSO MBA because I know the program has a hybrid learning format, combining online and offline, allowing me to pursue my studies even while I am working full-time. Finally, it’s because of the reasonable cost. Compared to other international MBAs, the PSO MBA has a fee that suits my current financial capacity.

*How have the knowledge and skills you gained from the PSO MBA program supported your current work?

Although I have had 10 years of experience in finance, my knowledge continues to expand to higher levels after studying the PSO MBA. While my current role focuses on financial reporting and budgeting, the program has equipped me with a deeper understanding of financial investment. This new knowledge helps me in developing strategies to improve cash flow and other financial indicators such as reducing turnover rates, increasing the company’s investment efficiency, etc.

*The PSO MBA applies many innovative teaching methods. Which method do you find most interesting?

Practising marketing strategy planning on a simulated system is an approach that I find extremely exciting. Specifically, students will participate in a simulated marketing system in a context where 5 companies compete with each other in the global bicycle business. I feel that this approach is very new and equally practical. This method helps me learn deeper lessons. Through operating a simulated business, we not only learn about marketing but also practice project management, cash flow management, budget management, and enhance brand awareness to achieve high profits. This is a comprehensive approach that helps students apply practical knowledge and better prepare for management roles in the future.

*What is the most memorable learning experience for you?

The experience of doing the final assignment for the Contemporary People Management course taught by Ms. Lê Thị Thanh Xuân is probably an unforgettable memory. Our group met her to get more advice on how to do the final presentation. I gradually became tense because she “pressured” us with a lot of questions and continuously set high standards for the assignment.

Looking back at that time, I was very struggling because of her new approach. It can be seen that her guidance method, specifically using pressure to motivate students. This method can create certain difficulties but helps students reap the rewards later. Indeed, the group’s final assignment was greatly improved and exceeded expectations. The structure of the article is tight and carries valuable supporting information. By researching and tackling Ms. Xuân’s challenges, the group gained a deeper understanding of the lesson, enabling them to confidently participate in class discussions.

*Can you tell me a few changes you’ve noticed in yourself after studying the PSO MBA?

Most lecturers have very high requirements for the quality of presentations and reports: tight structure, focused issues, appropriate theory, convincing evidence, etc. Those standards motivate me to complete the assignment as meticulously as possible. Through many modules, I gradually formed a habit of completing work results meticulously and achieving quality.

The overall program focuses on analytical and critical thinking skills. When encountering a problem, instead of rushing to a conclusion as before, I will now step back to get a general overview of the problem. Next is to observe and analyse it from many perspectives before proposing a suitable solution.

I have also successfully trained myself in effective time management skills. At first, I had difficulty balancing studying and working. Through careful time management and task prioritisation, I’ve been able to successfully balance my personal and professional commitments. This strategic approach has not only fostered personal development but also strengthened my ability to navigate challenging work environments.

*If you have a message for those who are looking for an MBA program, what would you share?

I want to emphasise the practicality of the PSO MBA program. Because each project I participated in during the study is very similar to a real project of a business.

More importantly, the curriculum is designed to be flexible and suitable for a variety of learners. Whether you are preparing to become a manager, planning to start a business, or even a fresh graduate, you can enrol. Studying PSO MBA is one of many ways to help you invest in yourself, both to enhance your personal value and to develop your expertise.

The networking factor is also quite attractive for you to consider. You not only learn from theory or lecturers but can also learn from your classmates. Within the framework of the program, there are additional connecting activities such as MBA Talk, MBA Connect, etc., opening up opportunities to meet many outstanding individuals in various fields and professions.
