Budget Travel – What Adds Value to Your Trip?
Pieces of aviation story
Asia – The Hub of World-Class Airports
Airports can be considered the first stop for travelers arriving in a new country. Therefore, the quality of an airport—encompassing its facilities, services, and staff—leaves a lasting first impression of that country.
Having had the opportunity to visit numerous airports around the world, travel blogger Thỏ Hoàng recommends Changi Airport in Singapore as the one that left the deepest impression on him. Changi is renowned for its lush plant ecosystem in the waiting areas and the Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, which is sure to leave visitors in awe.
For Đinh Hằng, Hamad International Airport (Doha, Qatar) left a strong impression due to the staff’s timely assistance in resolving an urgent transit situation within just 20 minutes. She highly appreciates the professionalism and systematic handling of issues at Hamad. In 2024, Hamad officially surpassed Changi to hold the title of the Best Airport in the World, according to Skytrax rankings.
With his expertise as an aircraft engineer, Mr. Hoàng stated, “It takes coordination from many departments to prepare for a flight ready for takeoff.” In addition to frontline staff like pilots, flight attendants, and check-in personnel, several other departments play a crucial role:
- Security Screening: This team inspects luggage to promptly prevent any dangerous items that could threaten airport security.
- Baggage Handlers: Responsible for transferring luggage from the conveyor belt to vehicles and from vehicles to the aircraft, ensuring everything is loaded onto the plane.
- Ground Services: This team manages the transportation of fuel, personnel, clean water, and waste, ensuring the aircraft is properly serviced.
- Technical Department: They check the aircraft’s readiness for takeoff, ensuring safety standards are met and addressing any issues if they arise.
- Air Traffic Controllers: Acting like traffic police for the skies, they guide the aircraft from startup at the gate to landing and taxiing to the parking position.
- Office Staff: They prepare the flight plan and submit it to the relevant authorities, ensuring all necessary documentation is in order.
Decoding the 7kg Carry-On Luggage Regulation
Most commercial aircraft are designed with a carry-on luggage limit of 38kg for the overhead compartments. When divided among passengers, a 7kg carry-on allowance falls well within the permissible limit. This weight restriction ensures that the aircraft can take off and land safely and stably. Additionally, 7kg is a practical weight that allows passengers to handle their luggage conveniently.
When MBA students asked about interesting destinations in Asia, the guest offered several unique suggestions.
Sharing with MBA students, travel blogger Đinh Hằng emphasized that India is a must-visit destination for those passionate about exploring culture and religion. Travelers can visit Bodh Gaya, one of the four sacred sites for Buddhists, or head to Varanasi to witness the Hindu cremation ceremonies firsthand.
The author of “Chân đi không mỏi – Mùa hè Đông Nam Á” also noted that Southeast Asia is a favorite destination for Western travelers, particularly backpackers. This region boasts abundant tourism potential with its diverse landscapes and rich cultural offerings. A true traveler would miss out if they didn’t indulge in the street food culture of Southeast Asia. Dishes like Bánh mì (Vietnam), Som Tam (Thailand), Laksa (Malaysia), and Samlar Kako (Cambodia) are sure to delight food enthusiasts.
