Manager at Samsung Vietnam: ‘MBA helps broaden knowledge and expand networking in one’s career.’

After the time of Covid-19 outbreak, Mr. Nguyen Truong Hoang Nhat – Head of Business – New Computing & Mobile Enhancements at Samsung Vietnam, recognized the importance of expanding knowledge and relationships on the career path.

Therefore, in 2022, Mr. Nhat Truong officially submitted an application and received a valuable scholarship from the MBA program at Western Sydney University.

At what point did you decide to pursue the MBA program at Western Sydney University? Why did you choose a Master of Business Administration program instead of a specialized training program?

The impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic made me realize the importance of enhancing knowledge and building relationships. I consulted and sought advice from many friends and colleagues to consider and choose a suitable program. Eventually, I decided to apply for the MBA program at Western Sydney University in 2022 and was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship.

In my opinion, an MBA program offers a more multifaceted perspective compared to a specialized training program. That’s why I chose to pursue an MBA to broaden my knowledge across various fields, gain a deeper understanding of how senior leaders make decisions, and expand my network with both faculty and fellow students.

What are your thoughts on professors, classmates, and the program after a year with the MBA at Western Sydney University?

Overall, the MBA program at Western Sydney University has been a fascinating experience for me. The faculty here are enthusiastic, highly capable, with extensive experience and knowledge across various fields. During lectures, some professors delve deeply into content crucial for managerial roles, and this knowledge significantly supports my work.

Moreover, the program has been immensely engaging. However, the initial timeframe for some courses was quite limited, preventing me from fully exploring or delving deep into them. Later, when time was more flexible, I managed it better to absorb knowledge and conduct deeper research.

MBA students at Western Sydney University are very open to exchanging information. During each session, classmates often raise issues regarding various global events, seeking the lecturer’s professional perspective. This dynamic interaction in class makes learning and absorbing knowledge fresher and more enjoyable.

Which lecturer that you was impressed the most during your MBA at Western Sydney University?

I was most impressed by Mr. Vo Hong Duc, who taught ‘Financial Reports for Decision Making.’ Prior to this course, I, like many others in the class, had no knowledge of finance, especially corporate finance, causing substantial pressure.

However, Mr. Duc outlined essential financial aspects crucial for management roles, providing numerous insights into the market, which facilitated smoother learning. Thanks to his dedication, I and many other students gradually realized that studying finance wasn’t as stressful as initially thought.

In pursuing an MBA at Western Sydney University, what challenges have you faced and are currently facing?

To me, the limited time available poses the most significant challenge for MBA learners. Besides work, MBA students have families and other commitments. Choosing to pursue an MBA means sacrificing time from other aspects to focus on studies.

The second significant pressure could be each student’s expectations. Joining an MBA program, everyone sets their own expectations, and the higher the expectations, the greater the pressure.

What changes has the MBA at Western Sydney University brought to you?

The MBA program at Western Sydney University has helped me enhance skills like time management and stress management. In terms of knowledge, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of finance, business strategies, and human resource management. These aspects greatly assist my daily work: understanding trends aids in formulating suitable business strategies; comprehending market finances or major companies helps me envision market movements; the human resource management skills learned in the MBA program help me efficiently manage the Product Marketing team, and so forth.

Moreover, my mindset has shifted towards a more positive direction. Instead of solely focusing on expertise, I’m now open to embracing new knowledge and market trends. This helps my career develop significantly in the long run. Particularly, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my network with many talented peers in the MBA program at Western Sydney University, enabling me to learn directly from their shared experiences.
