Seminar number 16 continues to welcome a female leader and expert with nearly 20 years of experience in the field of Communications & PR – Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa – Director Communications, Philip Morris International (PMI). As a guest speaker at the seminar, Ms. Kim Thoa shared valuable insights on time management philosophy and the “immutable” principles in communication. The main contents of the sharing session included:
Golden principles in time management
Having held various leadership positions in crucial departments in several major companies, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa believes that the secret to highly effective time management lies in a fast-paced and resolute working style in addressing each outlined task. Determination needs to be coupled with persistence to accomplish all set objectives.
According to the PMI leader, no one has 25 hours a day. While it’s impossible to “lengthen” a day, you can make your time “thicker”. This means that every moment within your 24 hours is of high quality and utmost efficiency, characterized by vigor, assertiveness, and determination in addressing each task you need to solve. Thus, you can ensure work progress and also reserve some time in the day for yourself and your family.
Regardless of the field, brand communication needs clarity
It can be said that the current communications department does not primarily aim to directly increase sales, or sell more products or services. Instead, communication plays a role in building bridges and fostering trust between the company, organization, and stakeholders, particularly the press, the public, customers, and all employees. This department acts as a “guardian,” protecting the brand of the company or organization. Successful corporate communications will bring sustainable values to the brand.
In sensitive companies Ms. Kim Thoa has worked with, brand communication played a critical role. For instance, during her time at VNG with various online game versions, communication activities significantly contributed to safeguarding the brand image, especially during a period when many newspapers criticized online games directly. Ms. Thoa believes that the development of gaming is an inevitable trend. Previously, the gaming field wasn’t regarded with much depth, but today, it’s seen as an e-sport.
“The world isn’t just black and white; there will always be shades lying between black and white. When dealing with communications for companies considered “sensitive,” you can explore those middle grounds in the most positive directions,” Ms. Thoa mentioned.
